About the Film/ Director’s Statement:

After having to cancel a short film that I was planning on finishing in time to submit a film to the early 2008 film festivals, I was left with less than a month to come up with a script, begin production, and edit a short film to meet my deadline of December 15th 2007. During October I decided to start watching the 1st season of the TV show Heroes. After watching the 1st episode, I was addicted, and I became obsessed with every aspect of the show. The show gave me this childlike desire to have super powers. While I understood it was impossible for me to have powers, I was able to take my own obsession and come up with the idea for the film which would become Imagine Me a Hero. Originally, I wanted to make a simple film about a guy who thinks he has powers, attempts a list of abilities, and after becoming discouraged, finally discovers that he has powers when he meets a girl who also possesses super powers. However, I really wanted to make a film that paid a lot of attention to detail and had clues to the film’s real meaning spread throughout the film. As a result, the film’s overall purpose became and exploration of how an obsessed, Heroes fan allows his delusions of grandeur to take control. Seemingly meaningless elements such as props and statements are presented throughout the film and are used as the elements that make up the final scene in which the main character appears to discover he has powers. However, taking the many clues, soundtrack’s lyrics, and film’s title into consideration one can understand that the entire last scene was a figment of the delusional main character’s imagination.
